I only had the privilege of knowing Stan when I joined a U3A French group he attended. Each week Stan would diligently relate in French an anecdote, an account of something he had read about or a visit he had made. We eagerly looked forward to his contributions which he spent time conscientiously preparing. In addition, he always showed a keen interest in what others had to say, listening attentively and asking questions. I recall on one occasion when the group met in my house, he spent ages studying my grandfather's war medals and advised me on how I could restore them. Stan was a lovely man who clearly touched the lives of so many people. I am sorry I did not have the fortune to have known him for longer.
