Stan and I worked together in Burroughs in Edinburgh in the late 1960's and early 70's and met occasionally in the South-East later in life. He was a kind and generous colleague and great fun to be with. He had a terrific sense of humour. My favourite story about Stan was when he was giving a demonstration of an L2000 desk computer to a prospective buyer. There was a slide that talked about Monolithic Integrated Circuitry, which was jargon that meant little or nothing to any of us. The customer asked "What does monolithic mean?" Stan was silent for a moment and then replied with a dead-pan face: "It means it's only got one lith." The customer signed the order. from Alistair Forsyth
